Environmentalism

The environment our world shares knows no boundary lines or nations. It exists with it's systems that support life across the planet. Those that live in societies and cultures that are middle to upper class do not necessarily see what is going on in other parts of the world until they take the time to research or visit other countries. The truth is, no matter how bad or good we make it, how we are treating our planet is revealing itself through the depletion of forests, the pollution of rivers and streams, the plastic islands found in the ocean's dead zones, the poor air quality many countries are already dealing with. America has yet to see how awful it really is in other countries where many of the poverty stricken do not even have clean drinking water.
Increasing your awareness about these issues can help you make decisions that help you, others and the global environment.

As you can see from the graphic to the left, the USA is far outranking every country in the world. What the graphic doesn't illustrate is that many of these countries listed below the USA have larger populations than us. This means that fewer people are consuming massive amounts of resources. The USA also has one of the highest pollution rates for it's population size.
With globalization, the way we live in the USA is spreading to other countries. This presents a big problem for the environment. In economic systems such as Capitalism, the growing need cannot be sustainably met over time. Our planet cannot maintain our demands especially as Capitalism and Western culture ideals spread to other countries.
It's not that the planet cannot sustain seven billion people. It's that the planet cannot sustain seven billion people living like the USA, Australia, the UK and the other countries listed above the world average of biocapacity per person.
