I am currently majoring in Women's Studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver. This week we are studying violence on women in one of my classes. After watching the below video I had to let it digest for a day or two to decide what it meant to me and what I thought of his approach.
Hands down I find his perspective unique and compelling and I hope that he reaches a lot of people through his speaking engagements. This topic is more serious than I ever realized until now and as my eyes are opening it makes me realize how often (daily) we listen to language, attitudes and beliefs that negate women and make everything about the man.
I tread cautiously with ideas that have to take sides at all because I believe community is about doing it together and figuring out how. One of his main points is that it's a man's issue. While I greatly appreciate the ownership, as I think many will, it's also a concern to take great care in not hijacking this issue completely. Let us each take accountability in the ways we need to and then work together for a better society.
With that being said, I hope you enjoy his enthusiasm and passion for a subject that has been drowning under the surface of our attention for way too long.
Please feel free to comment your thoughts, opinions, concerns and questions below. Please remember to be considerate of others that might view your comments but don't be afraid either. We all are trying to learn and find our way through a web of language and history so sincere and genuine
